The couple is also associated with Honey Bee’s Biscuits + Good Eats, Spencer’s Grill, and Tropical Moose through their Kirkwood-area hospitality businesses.
New Ownership for a Kirkwood Farmers Market Favorite
Michael and Meredith Shadwick purchased Walk Away Waffles from longtime owners Jack and Pat Williams. The Williamses had operated the waffle concept for more than a decade after creating it as a companion to their seasonal Tropical Moose business.
The transition kept the business connected to the Kirkwood Farmers Market, where the waffle truck had developed a regular following. The Shadwicks also began incorporating the operation into Hive Mind Hospitality, their group of local food businesses.
What the New Owners Planned to Preserve
Reporting from St. Louis Magazine indicated that the new owners intended to preserve the Belgian sugar-waffle concept and many familiar menu items while making measured operational changes.
Early plans included accepting credit cards, increasing inventory, and introducing additional savory options such as waffle breakfast sandwiches, smash burgers, fried chicken with waffles, and Honey Bee’s sausage gravy. Menu offerings and operating schedules can change, so visitors should confirm current availability directly with the business or market before making a special trip.

The ownership change reflects the close connections among Kirkwood’s small food businesses. The Shadwicks originally built Honey Bee’s as a farmers-market food truck before opening a brick-and-mortar location, and their other ventures include established Kirkwood names.
