
HUD Deputy Secretary confirmation was finalized on June 11, 2025, as the United States Senate approved Andrew Hughes for the position of Deputy Secretary at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Following the confirmation, Shannon McGahn, Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy Officer of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), issued a statement in support of Hughes’ appointment.
“We applaud the Senate for confirming Andrew Hughes as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development,” McGahn said. “Mr. Hughes brings deep institutional knowledge and proven leadership from his prior service at HUD, including as Chief of Staff during a time of unprecedented challenges and innovation.”
McGahn emphasized Hughes’ extensive experience in federal housing policy, noting his involvement in key initiatives such as Opportunity Zones and his management of pandemic-era programs. She added, “His experience navigating federal housing policy, advancing programs like Opportunity Zones, and managing pandemic-era pressures positions him to help lead HUD with the urgency and creativity this housing moment demands.”
The NAR expressed confidence in Hughes’ ability to drive forward practical and innovative housing solutions. “We look forward to working with Deputy Secretary Hughes to promote practical, forward-looking solutions that address homeownership attainability, affordability, support rental housing providers, and expand access to safe, stable housing for all Americans,” McGahn concluded.
