WEBSTER GROVES, MO – Betty’s Books Grand Re-Opening is set for Saturday, September 20, 2025, as the beloved independent bookstore welcomes the community to its new, larger location at 8772 Big Bend Boulevard. The celebration runs from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM CDT and will highlight the bookstore’s expanded offerings, including a full-service coffee bar and dedicated event space.
Founded in 2021, Betty’s Books has become a local favorite for graphic novels, manga, comic books, and children’s literature. Owner Betty Bayer says the move reflects the store’s growing role as a hub for both readers and creators.
“While comics and illustrated books will always be our focus, events—author signings, book clubs, art workshops, and more—are one of our biggest strengths as a business and community center,” Bayer explained.
The grand re-opening will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, followed by a full day of free, family-friendly activities:
- All-Day Features: specialty coffee drinks and pastries, a bookstore slideshow, the “Comics Cat” scavenger hunt, and exclusive coloring sheets.
- 10:00 – 11:00 AM: Storytime and craft session with local author Mary Wissinger.
- 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, 1:00 – 3:00 PM, 3:00 – 5:00 PM: “Zine Swap & Zine Making” with local artists including Byron, MTUG, and Sophia Malone.
- 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM: Face painting and painted tattoos.
- 3:30 – 5:30 PM: Live music by Scott MacDonald.
The celebration will continue on Sunday, September 21, with a special event featuring cartoonist Nidhi Chanani.
For fans of visual storytelling, Betty’s Books’ expansion is more than just a move—it’s a statement of its lasting role in the St. Louis literary community.
